Tips and advice

Blended Family Weddings

A family engagement shoot

Firstly, before you even celebrate your wedding, how about a beautiful engagement shoot together as a family? You could have some shots as a couple and then together with your children. After, you can use those photos for your wedding invitations, social media or as décor at your wedding.

Giving them roles

Secondly, figure out what roles you can give them on the day such as accompanying you both up the aisle, ring bearing or even officiating your ceremony, if you feel they are mature and confident enough! I offer script writing services and support so do pop me a message if you are interested in this option.

A family blessing

Then, how about a little family blessing either within your wedding ceremony or at a different moment throughout the day where you all say some special words or read a poem or reading, this can be combined with a symbolic ritual (see below).

A symbolic ritual

This is definitely something that I always suggest to families and that I also had at my own wedding! Sand ceremonies work really well, each family member can choose a colour of sand and pours their sand together into one glass container/vase. The sand blending together represents your union and bond as a family that cannot be separated. Handfastings are great too! Your children can bind your hands with the ribbons and read out a poem or a reading. Or tree planting, there are endless options! Click here for more ideas.

First dance/ flash dance

This can be a fun activity to do as a family and to practise together running up to the wedding. A first dance as a family, perhaps a fun flash dance, you can find lots of great ideas on Youtube or could even have some dance classes together or get some help from a dance choreographer.

Kids table and area

Lastly, a kids table and area for them to have fun is important. Offering them things like entertainment, goody bags and a comfy area for when they get tired means that all your adult guests can relax and enjoy your wedding too. Read my guide to child friendly weddings which is full of ideas and advice.
